Harvard University’s Professor Dani Rodrik calls Donald Trump’s presidency a “shameful stain” that today’s universities should reject. He argues that “administration officials should not be accorded to the degree of respect or deference that their seniority and government positions would normally merit.” While Rodrik admits that universities should be open to diverse viewpoints, he does not believe in “normalizing and legitimizing… an odious presidency.” Rodrik explains that Trump’s so-called presidential “stain,” “covers economic policy makers” in accordance with his “illiberal” political agenda. He also criticizes the University of Virginia for conveying people with ties to Trump in a positive manner.
