Professor A.W. Strouse wrote an op-ed titled “Why We Need Greater Linguistic Diversity,” in which he expressed his concerns regarding the “correction” of vernaculars, slang, and ebonics.
In the piece, the taxpayer-funded professor from the City University of New York made several outrageous claims including, “preferring standard English over other vernaculars is racist,” “students hate bossy teachers who tell them how to talk – especially bourgeois white teachers,” and that judging intelligence on the way someone talks is “based on dubious standards.”
“The workplace has way too much power and should not be allowed to determine something as fundamental as how we speak,” Strouse said. “People need to tell their bosses, ‘Fuck you,'” as if that ever got anyone anywhere.
