“I think that we’re all screwed because white people are in charge,” said Stanford professor Shanara Reid-Brinkley at a speaking event at the University of Wisconsin. She also asserted that American democracy was founded upon “anti-blackness” and because of this, black Americans will “never truly know freedom in today’s society.”
Other problems including genocide, colonization, and global warming are also the faults of white people, according to Reid-Brinkley.
The “black vote” is also shifting in America because the changes in the thoughts and priorities of young people, she said. “The Democratic National Convention(DNC) started to see a loss in popularity among black millennial during the November 2016 presidential election as they no longer felt represented by the leaders the DNC put forth. The DNC in the next 20 years is going to lose its voting bloc if it does not learn this lesson.”
