<a href="https://www.wm.edu/sites/dhp/faculty/ciccariello-maher-george.php">Dr. George Ciccariello-Maher</a> is a Visiting Scholar of Decolonizing Humanities and Modern Languages and Literatures at the College of William and Mary. He previously taught in the Department of History and Politics at Drexel University.

From the College of William and Mary's website, his work at the Decolonizing Humanities Project is <a href="https://www.wm.edu/sites/dhp/decoloniality/index.php">described</a> as exploring, “how colonization, modernity, capitalism, and, most recently, neoliberalism has displaced an array of modes of living, thinking and being.  Decoloniality reveals “the dark side of modernity” and how it is built “on the backs” of “others.”

Ciccarello first came to notoriety for his racially inflammatory statements on twitter. On Christmas of 2016, he <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/philly/news/Drexel-officials-Professor-George-Ciccariello-Mahers-White-Genocide-tweet-was-utterly-reprehensible.html">tweeted</a> out,

“All I want for Christmas is White Genocide,”

and,

“To clarify: when the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a  good thing indeed.”

He also tweeted out,

“Some guy gave up his first-class seat for a uniformed soldier. People are thanking him. I’m trying not to vomit or yell about Mosul.”

When Ciccariello was confronted by <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndkvgmGIQHQ">Tucker Carlson</a> over his tweets, he only proceeded to double-down. In the following exchange, he defended the academic veracity of his tweets by claiming, “performance art is scholarship.”

Ciccariello doesn’t shy away from utilizing violence to accomplish his radical beliefs. In an op-ed for <a href="https://www.salon.com/2015/05/04/riots_work_wolf_blitzer_and_the_washington_post_completely_missed_the_real_lesson_from_baltimore/">Salon</a>, he praised the riots that had engulfed Baltimore in 2015 in an article titled “Riots Work.” He wrote, “without the threat of insurgency in the streets, no charges would ever have been brought in the murder of Freddie Gray.” Obviously not a proponent of police, Ciccariello openly <a href="https://www.salon.com/2015/04/24/we_must_disband_the_police_body_cameras_arent_enough_only_radical_change_will_stop_cops_who_kill/">advocates</a> for the abolishment of police forces, describing them as, “originally slavecatchers.”

When not calling for the disbandment of our law enforcement, Ciccariello is an ardent defender of the socialist regime in Venezuela. He regularly <a href="https://www.counterpunch.org/2013/04/12/thatcher-is-dead-long-live-chavez/">praises</a> Hugo Chavez and has bizarrely <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhYz1owM-uA&amp;feature=youtu.be">claimed</a> that Venezuela does not have corrupt elections.

Ciccariello doesn’t shy away from violent groups as well. In order to fight white-nationalism, Ciccarello called on Americans to embrace the radical group ANTIFA in an interview with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTv_hqjrmi8&amp;feature=youtu.be">Democracy Now</a> following the El Paso mass shooting. Although committed by a stated white nationalist, in the same interview Ciccariello placed the blame on Donald Trump for the deaths, claiming that his rhetoric on immigrants inspired the shooter’s rampage.  Ciccariello made similar accusations in a prior <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTv_hqjrmi8&amp;feature=youtu.be">interview</a> about the Texas Church Massacre, alluding that “whiteness” and Trump’s stoking of white victimhood was to blame for the murders.

During the rioting that followed George Floyd’s death, Professor Dr. Jackson described police officers on her personal <a href="https://twitter.com/JennMJacksonPhD" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a> account as "employed in an institution meant to eradicate Blackness.”

According to a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study conducted by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED)</a>, BLM can be linked to 95% of the riots around the country–notably in Summer 2020 following the death of George Floyd. In an analysis of the study, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Federalist</a> found, “of the 633 incidents coded as riots, 88 percent are recorded as involving Black Lives Matter Activists.” The resulting riots were the largest in American history, <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">causing an estimated $2 billion in damages and 47 deaths.</a>

Dr. Jackson further defended the rioter’s vandalism and looting, describing it as a justified response to white supremacy.

On September 10th, 2021—just before the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks—Dr. Jackson tweeted that she was “disturbed” by how many “white pundits and correspondents” still talk about 9/11.

<a href="https://apps.weber.edu/wsuimages/Communication/Faculty%20Photos/Bios/Wash%20Web%20Bio.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mr. Ryan Wash</a> is the Communication Instructor, Director of Debate, and Director of Forensics at Weber State University.
According to his university profile, Mr. Wash is the only two-time, National Debate Tournament and Cross-Examination Debate Association Champion, both as a player and coach. Mr. Wash additionally facilitates workshops in “social justice, deliberative democracy, and debate” on behalf of the university. During one such retreat during the 2019 Fall semester, Walsh was accused of being “racist” and “anti-white” by a student in attendance, Michael Moreno.
In audio captured by Moreno, Mr. Wash accuses white people of fabricating the existence of space and facilitates a conversation where students discuss forcibly launching all white people into space.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjvmIFrX1xQ&amp;t=1687s&amp;ab_channel=MichaelMoreno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The recording is interspersed with video commentary from Moreno</a>. The event in question took place during an “<a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-investigating-black-debate-instructor-who-argued-space-isnt-real-created-by-whites/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">optional, pre-season retreat for students</a>”, according to the university.
According to Moreno, attendees were supposed to be debating the topic, “Should the US government work with Russia and China to reach space?” Instead of coaching students during the exercise, Mr. Wash launched into a racially tinged tirade, alleging that space is not real. He further characterizes concepts like “science and technology” as merely the projection of “white fantasies;” since neither he nor anyone else in the room has been to space, it can’t be real.
“Our argument will be that space is not real. It’s not real. Science, technology, it’s all fake. It’s a projection of white fantasies that has worked to control our interpretation of how the world works….None of us have had the privilege of going to space to verify that there’s these stars and these galaxies and these planets.” 
In the published video, Moreno can then be heard pointing out the absurdity of the argument, citing the existence of black astronauts. This is quickly dismissed, as Mr. Wash alleges that black people collaborate with whiteness, in this case, to lie about the existence of outer space.
Mr. Wash would later claim the purpose of the exercise is for the <a href="https://kutv.com/news/local/weber-state-debate-under-microscope-after-secret-recordings-go-viral" target="_blank" rel="noopener">instructor to adopt purposefully extreme positions to test students’ ability to debate and formulate arguments</a>. The remainder of the audio, however, demonstrates that Mr. Wash aligned with other students against Moreno, rather than challenging their arguments.
Around the 12 minute mark, the exercise escalated as several students began suggesting that all white people be removed from the earth. One student is heard advocating for launching all white people into space in order to create a safer planet for black people. Instead of dissecting the argument as directed, others soon chimed in to ask if doing so would only allow white people to colonize other worlds and enslave other forms of life.
Rather than point out the absurdity of their argument, Mr. Wash states that it&#8217;s more of a matter of practicality of getting white people into space.
Attempting to challenge both arguments, Moreno is rebuffed by other students, who claim he cannot ask questions to black students’ questions as a white man. Mr. Wash would further imply that Moreno’s objections were on par with that of sexual assault.
“So you being like if they’re women debaters and they’re like “this is what space means” and you’re like “no actually space means this way” – this is like a form of linguistic violence. I’m not going to go so far as to say the “R” word in there [implying “rape”], but it’s a form of linguistic assault.” 
Prior to the release of the video, Moreno reported the incident to Mr. Wash’s department supervisors. Following scrutiny by the media, the university vowed to look into the incident, but still sided with Mr. Wash,<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20191105161610/https://www.theepochtimes.com/college-debate-professor-science-is-a-projection-of-white-fantasies_3137028.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> stating that his views are protected under academic freedom</a>.

<a href="https://apps.weber.edu/wsuimages/Communication/Faculty%20Photos/Bios/Wash%20Web%20Bio.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mr. Ryan Wash</a> is the Communication Instructor, Director of Debate, and Director of Forensics at Weber State University.

According to his university profile, Mr. Wash is the only two-time, National Debate Tournament and Cross-Examination Debate Association Champion, both as a player and coach. Mr. Wash additionally facilitates workshops in “social justice, deliberative democracy, and debate” on behalf of the university. During one such retreat during the 2019 Fall semester, Walsh was accused of being “racist” and “anti-white” by a student in attendance, Michael Moreno.

In audio captured by Moreno, Mr. Wash accuses white people of fabricating the existence of space and facilitates a conversation where students discuss forcibly launching all white people into space.

The event in question took place during an “<a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-investigating-black-debate-instructor-who-argued-space-isnt-real-created-by-whites/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">optional, pre-season retreat for students</a>”, according to the university.

According to Moreno, attendees were supposed to be debating the topic, “Should the US government work with Russia and China to reach space?” Instead of coaching students during the exercise, Mr. Wash launched into a racially tinged tirade, alleging that space is not real. He further characterizes concepts like “science and technology” as merely the projection of “white fantasies;” since neither he nor anyone else in the room has been to space, it can’t be real.

“Our argument will be that space is not real. It’s not real. Science, technology, it’s all fake. It’s a projection of white fantasies that has worked to control our interpretation of how the world works….None of us have had the privilege of going to space to verify that there’s these stars and these galaxies and these planets.” 

In the published video, Moreno can then be heard pointing out the absurdity of the argument, citing the existence of black astronauts. This is quickly dismissed, as Mr. Wash alleges that black people collaborate with whiteness, in this case, to lie about the existence of outer space.

Mr. Wash would later claim the purpose of the exercise is for the <a href="https://kutv.com/news/local/weber-state-debate-under-microscope-after-secret-recordings-go-viral" target="_blank" rel="noopener">instructor to adopt purposefully extreme positions to test students’ ability to debate and formulate arguments</a>. The remainder of the audio, however, demonstrates that Mr. Wash aligned with other students against Moreno, rather than challenging their arguments.

Around the 12 minute mark, the exercise escalated as several students began suggesting that all white people be removed from the earth. One student is heard advocating for launching all white people into space in order to create a safer planet for black people. Instead of dissecting the argument as directed, others soon chimed in to ask if doing so would only allow white people to colonize other worlds and enslave other forms of life.

Rather than point out the absurdity of their argument, Mr. Wash states that it's more of a matter of practicality of getting white people into space.

Attempting to challenge both arguments, Moreno is rebuffed by other students, who claim he cannot ask questions to black students’ questions as a white man. Mr. Wash would further imply that Moreno’s objections were on par with that of sexual assault.

“So you being like if they’re women debaters and they’re like “this is what space means” and you’re like “no actually space means this way” – this is like a form of linguistic violence. I’m not going to go so far as to say the “R” word in there [implying “rape”], but it’s a form of linguistic assault.” 

Prior to the release of the video, Moreno reported the incident to Mr. Wash’s department supervisors. Following scrutiny by the media, the university vowed to look into the incident, but still sided with Mr. Wash,<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20191105161610/https://www.theepochtimes.com/college-debate-professor-science-is-a-projection-of-white-fantasies_3137028.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> stating that his views are protected under academic freedom</a>.

Hermansen said after the election of Donald Trump that professors should give Muslim students extra time on assignments if they requested; "“If a Muslim student requests extra time to complete assignments, it may be because they feel threatened" she said at a post-election discussion. Additionally, Hermansen has a problem of intolerance towards people critical of Islam, as she once backed out of a panel with Islam critic Robert Spencer.  The event was supposed to be about different perspectives on Islam, but Hermansen apparently was offended that it would actually involve different perspectives on Islam.

She also wrote, "If the college will not stand up to the Republican club, I have decided to stand up for myself and other students."

According to his university <a href="https://www.fresnostate.edu/socialsciences/historydept/faculty/faculty-lmaischak.html">biography</a>, Maischak teaches the courses, Colonial Americas, American History to 1877, England and Empire, United States 1789-1865, and Topics in History - Marx and Hegel for Historians. Maischak uses his personal Twitter account to call for the execution of the 45th President, Donald Trump, and refers to conservatives as fascists.

Maischak claims that fascism is the eventual result of capitalism in a paper titled, <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h6fiDilfQWGpUrKEh2zzCrBo_iOUHA8C/view">There can be no Democracy without Socialism</a>, shared on Google Drive. Describing fascism as the “creature of capitalism,” Maischak claims that capitalism facilitates the exploitation of workers, or what he describes as the establishment of a “dictatorship of capital over labor."

Maischak further <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h6fiDilfQWGpUrKEh2zzCrBo_iOUHA8C/view">cites</a> the territorial expansion, slave labor, and the outlawing of unions in Nazi Germany as examples of capitalism’s logical end. He later describes the liberties inherent in capitalism as the freedom to commit mass murder and barbarism.

Once Maischak’s tweets were published by outlets like the <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2017/04/07/professor-trump-must-hang-republicans-should-be-executed-for-each-immigrant-deported/">Daily Caller</a> and <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/local/2017/04/13/fresno-state-fbi-secret-service-probing-history-instructor-over-trump-must-hang-tweet/">Breitbart</a>, Maischak offered an initial apology for his remarks. In a written statement to the <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">Fresno Bee</a>, Maischak asks for forgiveness and states, “It was never my intent to harm anyone, nor to encourage others to harm anyone.”

According to <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/08/07/after-anti-trump-tweets-fresno-state-removes-adjunct-professor-teaching-position">Inside Higher Ed</a>, Maischak’s classes were canceled by the university before he was later removed from his position following his remarks about President Trump. However, as of March 2021, Fresno State University still <a href="https://www.fresnostate.edu/socialsciences/historydept/faculty/faculty-lmaischak.html">lists</a> Maischak as a Lecturer in the History department. In addition, his personal Twitter account still <a href="https://twitter.com/LMaischak">contains</a> tweets calling for former president Donald Trump to be hanged, and tweets referring to conservatives as “fascists” that must face “repression” that have not been removed or recanted.

Following initial coverage of Maischak’s remarks in 2017, the Fresno Bee <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">reports</a> that University President, Joseph Castro, stated in a conference call with reporters that he was cooperating with an investigation of Maischak by the Secret Service, Homeland Security, and the FBI. Following this statement, Fresno Bee also <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">reported</a> that Maischak then accused President Castro of allowing himself to be used by a “right-wing smear machine” for cooperating with the investigation.

The phrase, “from the river to the sea”, was <a href="https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/291203" target="_blank" rel="noopener">popularized by terrorist groups such as the Palestinian Liberation Organization</a> (PLO) and alludes to the destruction of Israel—and thus the genocide of the nation’s Jews—between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1948/08/02/archives/aim-to-oust-jews-pledged-by-sheikh-head-of-moslem-brotherhood-says.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The chant is thought to originate from the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan el-Banna</a>, who was quoted by The New York Times stating, "If the Jewish state becomes a fact, and this is realized by the Arab peoples, they will drive the Jews who live in their midst into the sea."

Further statements range from <a href="https://www.salon.com/2014/03/18/i_still_cant_stand_white_belly_dancers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accusing white belly dancers of cultural appropriation</a> to demanding that all <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=11161" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white editors step down from their positions</a>.

<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/professor-randa-jarrar-under-fire-for-calling-barbara-bush-a-racist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In 2018, Jarrar came under fire</a> after tweeting about former first lady, Barbara Bush, after her death. In one tweet about the former First Lady, she called Barbara Bush an “amazing racist” who “raised a war criminal.” In another tweet, she claimed to be “happy the witch is dead.”

After experiencing blowback for her remarks, Dr. Jarrar taunted her followers by claiming that she is a tenured professor who makes $100,000 a year and will never be fired.

When the university was asked to comment, <a href="http://www.fresnostatenews.com/2018/04/24/president-joseph-i-castro-letter-on-conclusion-of-review-regarding-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Castro stated</a>, “We share the deep concerns expressed by others over the personal comments made today by Professor Randa Jarrar, a professor in the English Department at Fresno State. Her statements were made as a private citizen, not as a representative of Fresno State.”

Dr. Jarrar faced no repercussions and returned to her teaching duties soon-there-after.

In the midst of the controversy, Dr. Jarrar wrote, “If you really wanna reach me, here’s my number ok?”, before <a href="https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/tempe/2018/04/19/fresno-state-professor-randa-jarrar-prank-floods-asu-hotline-barbara-bush/532486002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posting the landline of the ASU crisis line, causing the center to become inundated with calls</a>.

During a lecture for the <a href="https://www.aapcsw.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work</a> (AAPCSW), Dr. Hook <a href="https://twitter.com/MythinformedMKE/status/1430623830226186242" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that it’s ethical for white people to die in order to atone for apartheid in South Africa.
<a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/apartheid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apartheid rule consisted of a series of discriminatory laws </a>enforced along racial lines against black South Africans by the ruling white minority. It is widely considered to have ended with the election of dissident Nelson Mandela as President of South Africa in 1994. The <a href="https://spectator.org/south-africa-covid-lockdowns-civil-unrest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nation has since been plagued with economic crises, endemic poverty, and social unrest</a>.
Many white South Africans, also known as “Boers,” have suffered what are known as “farm attacks.” Victims believe <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/how-a-survivor-of-a-south-african-white-farm-murder-is-fighting-back" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the attacks are conducted with prejudice and that assailants are overlooked by the South African government</a>. This suspicion is seemingly validated by a recent report demonstrating that <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5534449/South-Africas-white-farmers-likely-killed-police.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white farmers are the victims of murders at far higher rates than the rest of the country’s population.</a> The violence is so pronounced that nations like the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210107020520/https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1032454567152246785" target="_blank" rel="noopener">United States</a> and <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-43403408" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australia</a> have offered aid to farmers suffering from the violence.
Despite denials of ongoing persecution, the ruling government continues to exacerbate the crises in the country. In 2018, the <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/south-african-government-begins-seizing-land-white-farmers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">South African government amended its constitution to allow for the forcible confiscation of property from white farmers without compensation</a>. Members of parliament have lauded the government’s policy as “<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5534449/South-Africas-white-farmers-likely-killed-police.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cutting the throat of whiteness</a>.”
In a video lecture for the AAPCSW—and captured by Twitter user, Mythinformed MKE—Dr. Hook can be heard <a href="https://twitter.com/MythinformedMKE/status/1430623830226186242" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advocating for the end of whiteness in South Africa</a> in a similar fashion. The video begins with Dr. Hook reading a quote questioning whether white people can ever be integrated into the country’s black majority. He states, “the only way for white people to become part of Africa is to not exist as white people anymore”.
He continues, “the goal has to be to dismantle white culture and ultimately white people themselves.” Dr. Hook further states the “death of white people” is necessary for integration to be successful;

Much of Dr. Hook’s work surrounds the study of the term “whiteness.” In one paper, <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1057/s41282-020-00178-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he comments that professor Robin DiAngelo’s concept of “white fragility&#8221; does not go far enough</a>, as it is insufficiently “destabilizing” to whiteness in post-apartheid South Africa.
Dr. DiAngelo’s concept of white fragility accuses all white Americans of internalizing white supremacy. White Americans—according to DiAngelo—will therefore work to maintain their racism and preserve racist structures and the benefits they confer. Update &#8211; The Professor Watchlist Team has received a response to our inquiry from Gabriel Welsch, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Duquesne. In a statement, the University has described our documentation of Dr. Hook’s statements as “ridiculous” and “reckless.” They further claim that Dr. Hook is a “highly respected expert” who does not advocate for violence. The University then accuses the Professor Watchlist team of taking Dr. Hook’s lecture out of context—despite the full context of the audio clip being included in the profile—to, “falsely illustrate advocacy for extreme behavior.”

“The statement attributed to Professor Hook is ridiculous and reckless. He did not make a statement advocating anything like what was suggested. In fact, he said that the statement in question was &#8220;crazy.&#8221;   
Professor Hook also said that the provocateur who used this example was wrong in suggesting any such radical action. The words being circulated were simply lifted out of context to distort the actual comments. Saying that Professor Hook called for anything like the words in question is false.   
Duquesne University is a Catholic institution that condemns any suggestion that suicide is to be advocated or endorsed in any form.   
Professor Hook&#8217;s presentation was part of an invited online talk Professor Hook gave to the Baltimore-based American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work (AAPCSW), an international association for psychoanalytic social workers. It happened in June. While some of the content in the recording certainly contained troubling elements if taken alone, the full discussion only references the work of another person (Terblanche Delport, as the slides indicate) and the extreme proposition in the context of post-Apartheid South Africa.   
Professor Hook did not advocate taking the extreme measures Delport described. Professor Hook is not advocating, nor does he advocate violence. His effort to understand how extreme thought is developed is the point of the presentation.   
Professor Hook&#8217;s expertise is in psychoanalysis, and his work considers psychoanalytic dimensions of racism in America and South Africa. He is a highly respected expert, and it is disappointing that his efforts to understand and challenge ideas that are admittedly extreme are being shared out of context to falsely illustrate an advocacy for extreme behavior.

During a lecture for the <a href="https://www.aapcsw.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work</a> (AAPCSW), Dr. Hook <a href="https://twitter.com/MythinformedMKE/status/1430623830226186242" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that it’s ethical for white people to die in order to atone for apartheid in South Africa.

<a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/apartheid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apartheid rule consisted of a series of discriminatory laws </a>enforced along racial lines against black South Africans by the ruling white minority. It is widely considered to have ended with the election of dissident Nelson Mandela as President of South Africa in 1994. The <a href="https://spectator.org/south-africa-covid-lockdowns-civil-unrest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nation has since been plagued with economic crises, endemic poverty, and social unrest</a>.

Many white South Africans, also known as “Boers,” have suffered what are known as “farm attacks.” Victims believe <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/how-a-survivor-of-a-south-african-white-farm-murder-is-fighting-back" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the attacks are conducted with prejudice and that assailants are overlooked by the South African government</a>. This suspicion is seemingly validated by a recent report demonstrating that <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5534449/South-Africas-white-farmers-likely-killed-police.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white farmers are the victims of murders at far higher rates than the rest of the country’s population.</a> The violence is so pronounced that nations like the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210107020520/https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1032454567152246785" target="_blank" rel="noopener">United States</a> and <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-43403408" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australia</a> have offered aid to farmers suffering from the violence.

Dr. Garza allegedly failed a disabled veteran student for arguing against modern-feminism and that women in the United States were fortunate and liberated. Garza also allegedly kicked the student out of class and filed a police report with campus police accusing the student of being “disruptive”.

<a href="https://engl.iastate.edu/chloe-clark-version-2/">Chloe Clark</a> is an English professor at Iowa State University.  She received national <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/iowa-state-professor-black-lives-matter-abortion">attention</a> for banning her students from debating certain topics in her class.
In a leaked syllabus for an English 250 class, <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/iowa-state-professor-forbids-students-from-criticizing-blm-gay-marriage-abortion/">Clark threatened to dismiss</a> any student that engages in “racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, serophobia, transphobia, classism, mocking of mental health issues, and body shaming.” Forbining any opposition to the Black Lives Matter movement and abortion, Clark stated that expressing any alternative views,
“ &#8230;are grounds for dismissal from the classroom. The same goes for any papers/projects: you cannot chose any topic that takes at its base that one side doesn’t deserve the same basic rights as you do (ie: no arguments against gay marriage, abortion, Black Lives Matter, etc). I take this seriously.”
Ironically, Clark states that a “central concept” of the course includes the formulation and presentation of arguments by students:
“An argument can be any text &#8211; written, spoken, aural, or visual &#8211; that expresses a point of view&#8230;In this course, you’ll summarize, analyze, and evaluate various types of communication and then use those skills…” 
Although the university announced that the syllabus had been corrected, Clark has a history of attempting to limit her students’ freedom of speech. At a weekly <a href="https://www.iowastatedaily.com/news/iowa-state-ames-feminist-friday-chloe-clark-margaret-sloss-center-for-women-and-gender-equity-house-discussion-monster-othering/article_5785b85e-fce2-11e9-b46b-8f4cb810f8a1.html">“Feminist Friday”</a> event hosted by Clark the prior semester, she discussed how the use of the term “illegal alien” was a form of “othering,” or an act of discrimination &#8211; a theme that she admits to teaching in her classes. She also asks her students to reflect on the way their “privilege” may negatively impact others:
“You shouldn’t feel guilty, you can’t change the way you were born, but you can use your privilege in productive ways.”

<a href="https://engl.iastate.edu/chloe-clark-version-2/">Chloe Clark</a> is an English professor at Iowa State University.  She received national <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/iowa-state-professor-black-lives-matter-abortion">attention</a> for banning her students from debating certain topics in her class.

In a leaked syllabus for an English 250 class, <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/iowa-state-professor-forbids-students-from-criticizing-blm-gay-marriage-abortion/">Clark threatened to dismiss</a> any student that engages in “racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, serophobia, transphobia, classism, mocking of mental health issues, and body shaming.” Forbining any opposition to the Black Lives Matter movement and abortion, Clark stated that expressing any alternative views,

“ ...are grounds for dismissal from the classroom. The same goes for any papers/projects: you cannot chose any topic that takes at its base that one side doesn’t deserve the same basic rights as you do (ie: no arguments against gay marriage, abortion, Black Lives Matter, etc). I take this seriously.”

Ironically, Clark states that a “central concept” of the course includes the formulation and presentation of arguments by students:

“An argument can be any text - written, spoken, aural, or visual - that expresses a point of view...In this course, you’ll summarize, analyze, and evaluate various types of communication and then use those skills…” 

Although the university announced that the syllabus had been corrected, Clark has a history of attempting to limit her students’ freedom of speech. At a weekly <a href="https://www.iowastatedaily.com/news/iowa-state-ames-feminist-friday-chloe-clark-margaret-sloss-center-for-women-and-gender-equity-house-discussion-monster-othering/article_5785b85e-fce2-11e9-b46b-8f4cb810f8a1.html">“Feminist Friday”</a> event hosted by Clark the prior semester, she discussed how the use of the term “illegal alien” was a form of “othering,” or an act of discrimination - a theme that she admits to teaching in her classes. She also asks her students to reflect on the way their “privilege” may negatively impact others:

“You shouldn’t feel guilty, you can’t change the way you were born, but you can use your privilege in productive ways.”

Dr. Thurston has spent his career defending Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin, and the Soviet Union (USSR).
BACKGROUND
Joseph Stalin’s dictatorial reign of the Soviet Union led to the death of between <a href="https://www.ibtimes.com/how-many-people-did-joseph-stalin-kill-1111789">20-40 million people through execution, starvation, and deportation</a>. Political dissidents, academics, artists, and even members of the Communist Party were often the targets of mass arrests and forced disappearances.
The most notorious repression—referred to as The Great Purge–occurred between 1936 and 1941. It is estimated that <a href="https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-ii/10-facts-stalins-great-purge.html">Joseph Stalin executed or arrested over one million people</a> to eliminate potential party rivals and consolidate his grip over the USSR. Victims were often arrested or tortured into “confessing,” and then executed or deported to labor camps known as “gulags.”
At the gulags’ largest extent, as much as <a href="https://fee.org/articles/the-economic-necessity-of-alexander-solzhenitsyn/">15 percent of the Soviet population was imprisoned</a> and branded as “class enemies.” Prisoners were used as slave labor and millions were worked to death in sub-zero, inhumane conditions.
The most well-known victim of Stalin&#8217;s purges was <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Aleksandr-Solzhenitsyn">Noble Laureate, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn</a>. Arrested for criticizing Stalin in private correspondence, Solzhenitsyn was sentenced to 8 years of hard labor and then internal exile.
Solzhenitsyn’s 1962 literary work titled “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” was inspired by his time serving in the gulag. “The Gulag Archipelago,” published in three volumes between 1972 and 1975, is a memoir documenting the human rights violations that occurred in the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin. Solzhenitsyn was quickly attacked by the Soviet press, and in 1975 was stripped of his citizenship and forcibly deported for his work. He spent the next 20 years living in exile–mostly in the United States– before returning to Russia in 1994.
DEFENDING A DICTATOR 
In a letter published in the Fall 1980 edition of Foreign Affairs Magazine, <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/20040662?read-now=1&amp;seq=2#metadata_info_tab_contents">Dr. Thurston openly criticizes Solzhenitsyn and questions his knowledge of the Soviet Union</a>. He writes that as a Westerner visiting the Soviet Union, he did not witness the “constraints” that Solzhenitsyn had described. The letter praises the USSR for the “material progress” made since the Russian Revolution. Dr. Thurston goes so far as to claim that Solzhenitsyn is “no better in touch with the Soviet Union than he is with the Russian past.”
In 1986, Dr. Thurston would further author another paper, titled, <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/2499175?read-now=1&amp;refreqid=excelsior%3A0fbc9e7942e61f685511d2ddd3a2fcc8&amp;seq=22#page_scan_tab_contents">“Fear and Belief in the USSR’s ‘Great Terror’”: Response to Arrest.”</a> He claims that Stalin actually enjoyed widespread support despite his documented purges.
Stating that Stalin never attempted to instill fear through mass arrests and deportations during The Great Purge, Dr. Thurston bizarrely claims fear of being arrested was not widespread in the Soviet Union.

Self-described as a “radical anti-racist white teacher”, he has repeatedly demonized police officers on his personal <a style="color: #000000;" href="https://twitter.com/KempoJesse">social media accounts</a>, <a style="color: #000000;" href="https://yellowhammernews.com/auburn-professor-f-every-single-cop/">tweeting</a>:
“F*ck every single cop. Every single one. The only ethical choice for any cop to make at this point is to refuse to do their job and quit. The police do not protect people. They protect capital. They are instruments of violence on behalf of capital.”
In a since-deleted Facebook post, Goldberg wrote “ACAB” which stands for “all cops are bastards.” The post reads:
