Ibram X. Kendi—Boston University professor, political commentator and author of “How to be Antiracist”—allegedly fired racial minorities from the Center of Antiracist Research (CAR).

Kendi, who founded CAR after the death of George Floyd, published a statement on Twitter explaining his decision to terminate several employees:

“There will always be people who critique the job someone else is doing—but I stand by my decision to take the long view for CAR, especially when racial and social justice organizations are under attack. I am proud of the many accomplishments of CAR’s talented and committed staff…”

On October 5, 2023, Campus Reform reported the university’s probe into CAR that would “focus on the center’s work culture and financial management” after several complaints were published by the Boston Globe.” Campus Reform said, “[E]mployees complained about dysfunction that hindered decision making, such as difficulty scheduling meetings with Kendi…”

In an interview with the Boston Globe, Kendi claimed that the layoffs “represent a strategic shift from operating as a high-growth startup pursuing many different projects…to becoming the world’s first residential fellowship program for antiracist intellectuals.”

In November, The College Fix conducted a formal review and found that Kendi fired “four black employees, four Hispanics, two Indians, one Asian and one Middle Eastern employee.”

The College Fix concluded, “One reason may be that the center was more inclined to hire non-white staff from the beginning. But according to Kendi, any policy that results in racial disparities flows from and is proof of racism.”

On November 7, the Boston Globe announced that Boston University’s internal audit—a review of CAR’s $40 million portfolio—showed no misappropriation or mismanagement of funds.

Dr. Ibram X Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Humanities at Boston University. He also served as the Frances B. Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. He is best known for authoring the New York Times bestseller, “How to Be an Antiracist,” along with “Stamped from the Beginning” and “Antiracist Baby.” He further serves as the Director and founder of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University.

Dr. Kendi claims that racism is deeply embedded in American institutions and that every white American benefits from racism, regardless of their actions. During one event hosted by Google, Dr. Kendi claimed that anyone raised in America is raised to be racist.

His speaking engagements are often very lucrative; the University of Michigan paid Dr. Kendi $20,000 for a virtual, one-hour speech on antiracism.

During another lecture for the Aspen Institute, Dr. Kendi defined racism as ANY policy—or support for a policy—in which the outcome results in racial disparities.

He would go on to explain the elimination of racial disparities by adopting far-Left policies—such as wealth redistribution to alleviate the racial income gap and universal health care— are examples of how one can be “anti-racist.”

Dr. Kendi wrote in “How to Be an Antiracist” that “the ultimate solution to racism or racial discrimination is discrimination itself”.

Dr. Kendi further advocates for an “antiracist amendment” to the Constitution to monitor and punish officials with “racist” ideas. Proposed policies in the amendment include:

– To deem racial inequity or racist ideas as unconstitutional

– Permanently fund a “Department of Antiracism”

– Mandatory monitoring of all federal, state, and local policies for racial inequity

– Mandatory monitoring of all public officials for racist ideas

– Ability to punish public officials who do not voluntarily change racist ideas or policies

Opposed to interracial families, Dr. Kendi has alleged that adopting a child from a separate race doesn’t make you “not racist.” During the 2020 confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett—who has adopted two children from Haiti—Dr. Kendi insinuated that families like the Barretts—whom he describes as “white colonizers”—only adopt black children in a racist attempt to “civilize them.”

The stated mission of the Center of Antiracist Research is to study racist inequality and propose more policies that would allegedly end racial inequity. Soon after its founding, the center received a $10,000,000 donation from Twitter Founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey.
